Memoirs of a Subanon Tribal Leader

I am Timuay Jose Boy Anoy.
My home is in Canatu-an Siocon Z.D.N. ²
I am the recognized tribal leader of the people.
I came from a line of timuay, the descendants of Apo Manglang³.
Only one group of people does not recognize him: the people from
Canada that are mining here in Canatu-an.
They did not respect him as timuay.
They entered Canatu-an to mine, without our consent.
That Mount Canatu-an is a place where people give
offerings whenever they pass by.
We the Subanon since the time of Timuay Apo
Manglang have cared and respected that Mount Canatu-an.
Now, T.V.I. ⁴has bulldozed Mount Canatuan.
Until the forests and rivers are ruined because of the mining activities of T.V.I.
That is not all even my body.
I cannot go home because they have blocked my way of passage.
I cannot even make an offering to my bata baloy⁵.
In Canatu-an, disturbance and destruction are the works of T.V.I.
They listened to the Subanon who are not from the area.
Those Subanon gathered from other places by Atty. Bernardo.
They use many SCAA⁶ who are all armed.
What they have been telling us that T.V.I. can help is not true.
For they really are the ones who has brought
destruction to our livelihood here in Canatu-an.
We cannot even properly till our land- our livelihood.
Because what they want is for us to leave our own ancestral land.
Now I am calling the government to have
compassion on us. To the government of Canada,
stop the T.V.I. in mining Mount Canatu-an.
