Right to Information, Right Now
Letter to the Editor
DAVAO CITY—This is in reaction to the early report that House Speaker Prospero Nograles cannot commit for the passage of House Bill 3732 or the Freedom of Information (FOI) Act of 2010, pointing out that other pending bills were also considered equally important and that he could not guarantee a quorum.

The law is very important to the people as it obliges the government to disclose the contents of various public documents like agreements, contracts, loans, bilateral or multilateral agreements, and licenses to use or extract natural resources among others that are most of the time denied by authorities when requested. Civil society laments lack of impartial investigation
into the burning of school building in Tampakan

KORONADAL CITY—Last February 1, the school building of Datal Biao Elementary School in Barangay Danlag, Tampakan, South Cotabato was burned by still unidentified men. The military blames the New People's Army (NPA) of the mine site atrocity. Datal Biao lies within the Mine Development Area of Xtrata–SMI.

"We believe that the incident could be used to give reason for the deployment of more military personnel in the area especially that there have been series of spontaneous protest actions of the B'laans directed against the company since last year," said SOCSKSARGEN CAN (Climate Action Now) spokesperson Sr. Susan O. Bolanio, OND. (February 9, 2010) READ MORE>>>
