By German R. Camarador

MIDSALIP, ZAMBOANGA DEL SUR—On July 25, 2007 at 8:30 in the morning, Freddie Barimbao and Cesar Flores, farmers who reside in Guma, Midsalip, Zamboanga del Sur caught a Philippine Eagle in their farm.

The farmers said they believe the eagle was hit by a slingshot as there was a bruise on the eagle’s neck.

At about three o’clock in the afternoon on the same day, the eagle was turned over by the farmers to Police Senior Inspector Gorge Mag-abo Andam, Chief of Police of Midsalip Police Station, so that the eagle could be treated by the proper government agency.

On July 26, 2007, Mario Ronulo and John Rollan, personnel of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) in Pagadian City visited the eagle at the Midsalip Police Station. They (DENR Personnel) said that the bird is a Philippine Eagle aged not less than three months.

The Philippine Eagle is one of the largest eagles in the world. It is an endangered specie, found only in the Philippines.
