Aerial bombings force residents to flee 3 villages in Surigao del
By Carmel Reyes

TANDAG, SURIGAO DEL SUR—An undetermined number of residents in barangays Rajah Cabungso–an, Union, and Bogak; all in Lingig town, province of Surigao del Sur have evacuated their homes after elements of the Philippine Air Force conducted aerial bombings in these three barangays last week.

Eighty families sought temporary shelter at the village gym; while undetermined number sought refuge with friends and families in nearby villages.

Farmers in the area reported that their crops were destroyed as a result of about 25 bombs dropped by the military.

The military was reportedly going after the New People's Army in the area.

Farmers in the area are claiming, however, that the three barangays are home to civillians; and that the reason for the militarization in the area is the clearing of the area for the entry of mining companies.
