Extra-Judicial Killings of BM 29 Members in Cagayan de Oro City
By Ellen Red
continued from page 2
BM, he said, stands for "Batang Mindanao". It is called "Batang Mindanao" because we are based in Mindanao and "29" stands for "Balisong", a locally made knife-the usual weapon used by the BM 29 members, he said.
"Our doctrines are not to encourage wrongdoings, but to encourage people to do good," he said.
To qualify as member of BM 29, one must be already 18 years old, Mr. Uba said.
However, 16-year-old Ismael, not his real name, told Inside Mindanao that at an early age of 12 when he was imprisoned at the Cagayan de Oro City Jail, he became a member of BM 29.
Grace, not her real name, another BM 29 member told Inside Mindanao that the doctrines of BM 29 are not bad. Example of these doctrines, she said, is not to betray other BM 29 members.
"It pains us when we hear that another BM 29 member is killed because only God has the right to take our lives," she said.
Grace added that the "vigilantes" are behind the killings of BM 29 members in Cagayan de Oro City. However, she said she cannot personally identify these"vigilantes".
Ismael and Grace told Inside Mindanao that the identifying mark of a BM 29 member is the tattoo, with letters "BM 29" and "DGD". They said"DSD" stands for "Do Good or Die".--Inside Mindanao
