Communities affected by mining in Zamboanga Peninsula
urge President Aquino to stop mining now
By Carl Cesar Rebuta of LRC–KsK⁄FoE–Phils

Fisherfolks, farmers, women, indigenous peoples from Siocon and Tamarok of Zamboanga del Norte, Bayog and Midsalip of Zamboanga del Sur, and Misamis Occidental have urged President Benigno Aquino III to stop mining now.

In the late 1990s, Zamboanga Peninsula became the mining capital of the Philippines after proliferation of mining tenements issued by the Mines and Geosciences Bureau escalating community opposition from the towns of Siocon, Bayog, Midsalip, and Sibutad.
